Ultimate Guide: Travel Essentials

Ultimate Guide: Travel Essentials

As some of you may know on Friday I’m heading of to South Africa for a week. Obviously i am super excited to be going away but I’m also a real lover of packing. Probably because I’m a bit of an organisation freak. Since some of you may be jetting of somewhere for half term, or evening planning holidays for the summer I thought it may be useful to share with you my ultimate packing guide.

In-Flight Entertainment:

Everyone knows flights are boring and it often is up to you to provide your own entertainment (unless they have great movies). This trip my flight will probably mainly consist of revision however this is what I usually bring to keep me busy.

  • Phone
  • Notebook
  • Pens/ Pencils
  • Portable charger
  • Headphones
  • Book
  • Magazines

Carry on Items:

As well as all the above for entertainment there are also a few essential things that are always useful/necessary to have with you.

  • Passport
  • Tickets
  • Itinerary
  • Sunglasses
  • Credit card
  • Money- ideally in both currency’s
  • Hotel details
  • Cosy socks
  • A jumper- if you aren’t already wearing one
  • Waterbottle
  • Snacks
  • Hand lotion
  • Adaptor

For clothing this list is assuming your going somewhere hot, I’m not a big fan of the cold so i’m not much of a help if you’re going skiing! When it comes to clothing it’s best to pack realistically. Plus this saves space for any shopping you want to do! Think about how much you will realistically wear in the time frame you’re going for.

  • Dresses- Best to think about what will be comfy and easy to wear and also keep you cool.
  • Skirts
  • Shorts- Denim or cotton.
  • Jumper- if the evenings get a little chilly.
  • Rainmac – you never know when they’ll be a quick downpour, even in warmer countries.
  • T-shirts/ Vests
  • Gym/running clothes- if that’s your thing.
  • Pj’s

Shoes take up quite a lot of suitcase space so the less the better!

  • Flip Flops
  • Sandals
  • Trainers

No one likes having to put on a damp bikini so make sure you bring more than one set. Also quick tip don’t leave them over the balcony to dry. If you have bad luck like my dad they might end up stuck in a palm tree!

  • Bikini
  • Swimming costume
  • Kaftan

I find it’s always best to pack one pair of pants for each day plus a few extras. You never know…

  • Bras
  • Pants
  • Socks- Trainer or normal.
  • Bralets/ Bandeau bras- depending on what tops you’ve packed.

Again i tend not to bring much jewlery or anything like that with me as it just gets tangled and becomes a nightmare to undo.

  • Sunglasses
  • Sun hat
  • Jewellery
  • Watch
  • Glasses/ contact lenses if you don’t have perfect vision.

Beauty Bag/ Toiletries :

  • Sun cream
  • After sun
  • Deodorant
  • Body spray/ perfume
  • Moisturiser
  • Razors
  • Shaving cream
  • Makeup remover
  • Tampons/Pads
  • Tooth brush+ paste
  • Insect repellent
  • Small first aid kit
  • Shampoo+ Conditioner
  • Body Wash
  • Lip balm
  • Nail file
  • Hair brush
  • Tissues
  • Medication
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Bronzer- especially if you don’t get a nice tan.
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick
  • Eyeshadow
  • Makeup brushes

This list is pretty extensive but do let me know if you think i’ve missed anything. It would also be really great if you guys had any suggestions for any blog posts you’d like to see whilst i’m away. I’m not sure how good the wifi will be especially, especially for the first few days as i’m staying out on a safari reserve. However i will do my best to get some blog posts up, and if not will share it all with you when i get back. Have you planned any nice holidays away? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂 xx
